Football Betting Overview
Football (soccer) is the world's most bet-on sport. On BK8, you can bet on leagues from around the world including the English Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Malaysian Super League, and hundreds of others.
This guide explains the main market types available for football betting, how odds work, and what each bet type means.
Main Betting Markets
1X2 (Match Result)
The simplest bet: who wins the match?
- 1: Home team wins
- X: Draw
- 2: Away team wins
Settled at full time (90 minutes + injury time). Extra time and penalties don't count unless specifically stated.
Double Chance
Covers two of the three possible outcomes:
- 1X: Home win or Draw
- 12: Home win or Away win (no draw)
- X2: Draw or Away win
Lower odds than 1X2 because you're covering more outcomes.
Asian Handicap in Football
Asian Handicap eliminates the draw by applying goal handicaps to teams. Popular in Asian markets because it provides closer to 50/50 betting opportunities.
| Handicap | Meaning | When You Win |
|---|---|---|
| -0.5 | Team must win | Team wins by any margin |
| +0.5 | Team starts with half goal lead | Team wins or draws |
| -1.0 | Team must win by 2+ | Win by 2+, push on 1 |
| -1.5 | Team must win by 2+ | Win by 2+ |
| +1.5 | Team starts 1.5 goals ahead | Win, draw, or lose by 1 |
For detailed explanation, see our Asian Handicap Guide.
Over/Under Goals
Bet on whether the total goals scored will be over or under a specified number.
- Over 2.5: 3 or more goals in the match
- Under 2.5: 2 or fewer goals in the match
Common lines include 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, and 4.5. Half-goal lines eliminate pushes— you either win or lose.
For detailed explanation, see our Over/Under Guide.
Other Popular Football Markets
Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
- Yes: Both teams score at least one goal
- No: At least one team fails to score
Correct Score
Predict the exact final score. High odds because it's difficult to predict precisely. Common scores (1-0, 2-1, 1-1) have lower odds than uncommon scores (4-3, 5-0).
Half-Time/Full-Time
Predict the result at half-time AND full-time. Example: Home/Home means home team leads at half-time and wins at full-time.
First Goalscorer
Which player scores the first goal? If your player doesn't play or is substituted before any goal, bet is usually voided.

Responsible Football Betting
Football's popularity means constant temptation to bet. To stay in control:
- Set a weekly football betting budget separate from other entertainment
- Avoid betting on your favorite team—emotional attachment clouds judgment
- Don't chase losses by betting on late matches to "recover"
- Take breaks during international breaks and off-season
Football Markets Available at BK8
Beyond the standard markets, BK8's football coverage includes a wide range of bet types — particularly for major matches. The depth of markets varies by match popularity:
Pre-match markets (typically available 3-7 days before kick-off):
- 1X2 (match winner) and Asian Handicap variants
- Over/Under goals (0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5+)
- Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
- Correct score markets
- First/last goalscorer
- Half-time / full-time double
- Total corners (over/under)
- Cards / bookings markets
- Player-specific props (anytime goalscorer, shots on target, assists)
Live in-play markets (during match):
- Real-time match winner and Asian Handicap with shifting odds
- Next goal market
- Next corner / next card
- Total goals over/under remaining time
- Cash-out on existing pre-match bets
Margins are typically tightest on match-winner and Asian Handicap (4-6%), wider on specialty markets (correct score, first goalscorer can run 8-12%).
Key Leagues for Malaysian Bettors
- English Premier League — Highest volume globally. BK8 covers all 380 fixtures per season with deep market depth.
- La Liga — Spanish top flight with strong Asian following.
- Champions League — UEFA's flagship competition. Particularly heavy betting volume during knockout stages.
- Bundesliga / Serie A — Major European leagues with weekend coverage.
- Malaysian Super League — Local league. Lower margins than international markets, deep Malaysian-specific coverage.
- AFC Cup / Asian Champions League — Asian club competitions popular regionally.
- FIFA World Cup / Euros / AFC Asian Cup — International tournaments draw highest betting peaks.
Football Betting Strategy for Malaysian Players
- Specialise rather than spreading. Following 2-3 leagues deeply produces better edge than tracking 10 leagues casually.
- Pre-match value beats live in-play. Pre-match markets are sharper but slower; you have time to research. Live markets move fast but bookmakers don't have time to fully model in-play probability shifts. Both can produce edge; pre-match is more sustainable for casual players.
- Asian Handicap quarter lines typically offer better value than 1X2 due to tighter margins. Use them as your default football market once you understand the maths. See Asian Handicap guide.
- Avoid same-game parlays unless you have a specific correlated thesis. Compounded margin destroys EV. See parlay guide.
- Know team form context. Pre-match odds reflect public information. Edge comes from spotting specific factors — injury news, motivation factors, weather forecasts — before public markets fully absorb them.
- Track results. Without data on which leagues, market types, and bet sizes you're profitable in, you're betting blind. Spreadsheet every bet.
Common Football Betting Mistakes
- Betting on your favourite team. Emotional bias inflates probability estimates. If you must bet on your team, bet against them — the over-confidence skew tends to make those bets +EV.
- Chasing rare events. First goalscorer, exact score — high-margin markets that "feel" like value but mathematically aren't.
- Recency bias. "Liverpool have won 4 in a row" doesn't predict the 5th win. Bookmakers price in form; the 5th win expectation is already in the odds.
- Parlay-heavy strategy. Building 5-leg accumulators on Saturday Premier League fixtures is fun but EV-negative. Single bets for sustainable play.
